Jelena Grahovac, PhD

Research Assistant Professor
Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research Fellow
Experimental Oncology Department
Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia

Email:  jelena.grahovac@ncrc.ac.rs

Jelena is the Principal Investigator on the REPANCAN project. She has a PhD in Integrative Molecular Biology from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where under the mentorship of Dr Alan Wells she studied the role of cell motility and extracellular matrix signaling in melanoma invasion and metastasis. She completed postdoctoral training in tumor pathophysiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital /Harvard Medical School in the laboratory of Drs Rakesh Jain and Yves Boucher where she started studying pancreatic cancer. Jelena is very excited that she has an opportunity to continue that line of work through the REPANCAN project at the Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia.

Tatjana Srdić-Rajić, PhD

Research Professor
IORS Scientific Board Chair
Experimental Oncology Department
Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia

Email: tatjana.srdic@ncrc.ac.rs

Tatjana has a PhD in Biochemistry from the School of Chemistry, University of Belgrade, where under the mentorship of Drs Jankov and Metlas she studied HIV neutralizing antibodies in healthy individuals. She was a visiting scholar at the Centro di Riferimento Oncologico di Aviano, Public Health Research Institute of the City of New York, University of Toronto and at the Instituto di Clinica delle Malattie Infective in Pavia. After joining the Institute of Oncology and Radiology of Serbia she shifted her research focus to cancer and started investigating biological activity and molecular mechanisms of action of both novel drug-candidates and drugs with potential for repurposing in oncology. Given her extensive interdisciplinary expertise in the field, Tatjana is Jelena’s Supervisor for the Marie Skłodowska–Curie fellowship. On the REPANCAN project she will provide both research and project management support.

Marija Ostojić, MPharm

Research Assistant
Experimental Oncology Department
Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia

Marija graduated from the School of Pharmacy, University of Belgrade in 2016, and is currently a PhD candidate in the Molecular Oncology program at the School of Biology, University of Belgrade. Her doctoral research at IORS, under the supervision of Dr Grahovac, is focused on investigating the role of imidazoline receptors in solid tumors. Marija is also a budding bioinformatician and for the REPANCAN project she will study the effects of imidazoline therapy on the pancreatic cancer transcriptome.

Marijana Pavlović, MSc

Research Assistant
Experimental Oncology Department
Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia

Marijana has a Master’s degree in Immunobiology from the School of Biology, University of Belgrade. For her thesis she studied signaling pathways and antitumor activity of non–steroidal anti–inflammatory drugs in glioma. Currently, Marijana is a fifth year PhD student in the Molecular Oncology program and is about to defend her PhD thesis on the antitumor potential of ruthenium(II)-arene complexes. Marijana joined the REPANCAN team for her postdoctoral training and will be studying molecular mechanisms of action of imidazoline agonists in pancreatic cancer.

Kristina Živić, MSc

Junior Research Assistant
Experimental Oncology Department
Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia

Kristina received her Master’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of Belgrade. She is now a first year PhD student in the Biochemistry program at the School of Chemistry, University of Belgrade. For her PhD thesis, she will study the role of imidazoline receptors in pancreatic cancer under Dr Grahovac’s mentorship.
